When people think of Corvallis, they think of a place that´s vibrant with
the excitement of Oregon´s leading research university, Oregon State
University, complete with a myriad of programs for all ages and highly
competitive Pac-12 sports. The area´s regional medical center and a
host of businesses in high tech industries known for their
environmental sensitivity. Corvallis is a very livable city with small
town familiarity.
Corvallis real estate is in a perfect location at the confluence of the
Willamette and Marys Rivers, 45 minutes from the Pacific Ocean in Newport, 90
minutes from skiing, between Eugene and Portland in the Willamette
Valley.
Corvallis boasts a high percentage of highly educated people, one of the
highest concentrations of PhDs in the nation. The influence of members of the
university, Hewlett-Packard and Good Samaritan medical center communities is
profound and can be seen in local support for schools, the library and many
other activities. The community involvement is one of the many
reasons Corvallis real estate is so attractive and why relocating to the
area is such a great idea. People in Corvallis tend to be more involved in community
decisions than in many larger cities. There´s a wonderful local paper,
the Corvallis Gazette-Times, that helps people stay connected to what´s
happening in the community. If you´re interested in volunteering, this is the
place to be.
"Corvallis boasts a high percentage of highly educated people,

Corvallis city leaders tend to want to preserve the character of our
community through slow growth policies, environmental consciousness and
attracting businesses that fit this community. There are a number of historic
districts in town where there is particular awareness of these needs. In
other parts of town, people renovate older ranch-style homes with new high
energy efficiency features. There are many people starting to add solar
panels and other sustainability features to their homes, making Corvallis
real estate green and environmentally friendly. Outside of the city, in
Benton County, there are many opportunities for living a more sustainable
lifestyle within a short distance of town.
Downtown Corvallis is the center for Benton County´s shopping
experiences. With that, we consider downtown Corvallis to be the dining room of
Corvallis. Many restaurants and shops are located along the new Riverfront
Park, funded several years ago by Corvallis residents to show their support for
Downtown. Some local favorites are Big River, Del Alma, Strega, Aqua and
countless others. Because people come to Corvallis from all over the world,
we have more than our fair share of outstanding ethnic restaurants. You can
find choices of authentic Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai, South American,
Mexican and many other cuisines. Many downtown Corvallis shops are locally
owned, providing personalized service at reasonable prices and helping you to
find items they may not normally stock. For more extensive shopping
experiences, we also have a number of larger chain stores including Home
Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond and more.
Corvallis Education
Schools in Corvallis and throughout Benton County are well known for
their excellence. Parents form supportive groups for each school and help to
build their character and programs. In the past few years, Corvallis voters
supported new buildings for Corvallis High School and Linus Pauling Middle
School and significant modernizations to all other schools in the district.
Philomath schools are known for their smaller classroom sizes and excellence
in programs with a surprisingly high percentage of students going on to
college for a smaller district.
Corvallis Weather
The weather in this area is generally mild which is great for
maintaining reasonable utility bills. Summers are so beautiful with very few
days of high temperatures. Winter starts in late October and lasts through
March. You might be surprised that the rain in this part of Oregon is
generally more a mist than a downpour. Spring and Fall are perfect here not
much rain, gorgeous clear blue skies, mild temperatures. If you´re a
gardener, you´ll love this area because everything grows! Plus, there are
Master Gardener programs and plenty of terrific nurseries to help you.
